Interesting question about race, gender (sociology)..i need a lot of responses so anything will help

Do you think gender and race has an effect on each other when it comes to racism, discrimination, internalized racism, etc... From reading some books and essays i came to conclusion that African American women are prejudiced against more. They have much more pressure to become "white (such as straightening their hair, bleaching their skin, getting nose surgery" and that pressure takes a toll on them. Why do you think that females of people of color are discriminated against more?? And what about other race categories such as Asians, Whites, Latinos? For each race which racial group do you think experiences more racism, discrimination, and has more pressure to become white and what would be the reason for it??. In my opinion i think Asian males are discriminated against more because Asian females are seen as sexual for men so they are more accepted in our society than Asian males. What are your opinions? Thanx in advance!!!!!!!!

Yes, there is a nexus of inequality involving race, sex, and social class (don't forget this one--it is very important!). Sociologists use the term "double jeopardy" to refer to the extra disadvantage (e.g., a greater pay gap compared to white males) experienced by those who occupy two minority statuses.

for one thing, women have always been seen as "lesser" than men, which annoys me to no end. but recently they've been gaining status - but if you're a woman AND are thought to be a lesser race... well then you're really discriminated on. not now though, or it shouldn't be like that now.

and of course Latinos are not liked by Americans, because they're "taking over our country". which I don't appreciate much, being hispanic but born in this country.

anyways hope this helps!

I think depending you live the racial groups that you are surrounded by .Like if you were a white women living a neighborhood, where blacks where the majority, then the white girl would feel pressure to blend in with her surroundings and culture.Just as a black women living in a dominantly white neighborhood would feel the same pressure to starting acting and behaving like a white women would.

Though also in different parts of the world, people with power and money i think are seen as the Superior race.So they would be influenced to think that race of people is somehow better than their.

But also i think that commercials and world wide influenced may bring another race of people to be favored than another.

My buddy (who is black) recently moved to St. Lucia, which is a country (small island) east of central america. The majority of the population is black. However, all the locals want to hook up with white people. It really makes my buddy mad because all the pretty girls don't care that he is from the States, they don't care that he is an athlete, and they don't care that he is in med school. All the hot girls want a white guy, simple as that. Why? I don't know. Like you said, why do so many guys want asias women? That's just the way people are. People all agree that a collie is cute and a beagle is ugly. Of course there are people who love beagles and people who hate collies, but there will always be a majority and a minority in everything. Who people want to hook up with is no different.

Just because my buddy wants to hook up with these girls doesn't mean there is "pressure" on him to be white. That's crazy. That pressure is in your head. He can't (and doesn't) blame these girls for wanting a white guy. It isn't their fault, you like what you like. No one told him to go get a nose job and bleach. If he decides to do that it's on him.

Everybody is different, I think we all get that. "Black people are good at sports." That's not racist, that's a fact. Black people represent 14% of USAs population and over 70% of professional sports. Just because we are talking about race doesn't make it racist. "Black people go to jail more." Once again, that's a fact. Over 80% of the jail population is black. That's not racist. White people go to jail to.

It works the same way with sex. "Women are more emotional then men." True. "Men are more physical then women." True. These aren't "good" or "bad" things. These are just facts of life. The sooner we get over all these little coversations about how we are all different (which we all already know the answers to, we just want to see who has the balls to answer them) then we can move on to important questions. Like "Why the hell do black people represent 80% of the jail population if they only represent 14% of the US?"

Let's move on people.

I look forward to the time when such problems will be a thing of the Past!
